Art you say?

16 April 2009

Modern or contemporary?
Oil, acrylic or water colour?
Sculpture or photography?
You like it? Some of it? Or you don’t like it at all?
Well wait until you see what Aboriginal Art is fetching at international auctions you may just get yourself off to an exhibition to see what the fuss is about and pick up some pieces!

Nestled in the old city of Vevey, is the GALLERY CLEMENT, owed by Joëlle Clément and her husband, Pierre.

The duo share a passion in their collections of Aboriginal Art to which is a specialty of the gallery and to which realizes their vision, in terms of creating a space, to which the aboriginal artists and europeans can meet.

So what is Aboriginal art?
It is a way of painting, created by people who live in the Western and Central Australian
deserts; who through time have developed a real artistic movement. The aboriginal artists have created a way to express the culture of the desert and a need for artists to write the time through their technique called pointillism.
The paintings are a vibration and physical expression of the earth to which these people live.

With personal visits to the Western Australian desert for the passed 10 years, the gallery has showcased works of artists such as Greeny Purvis Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Walala Tjapaltjari as well as Nancy Ross Nungarrayi and many others.
For those who are clued up on artists, you will know these are some of the originators of the pointillism movement and who to this day are highly regarded in the art world.

Featuring from today, with a vernissage tonight, is the first of the 2009 collection exhibitions.
Don’t miss it!
